International Phytochemical Workshop

An international workshop on phytochemicals and their importance for human health will take place on November 23-24, 2011 at the Environmental Research Institute (ERI).
The meeting is jointly organised by Dr Marcel Jansen, School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES) and Prof Nora O’Brien, School of Food and Nutritional Sciences, and explores the interface between Environment, Plants and Food quality. This conference is part of the activities of the UCC led COST-Action UV4Growth, which focuses on the regulatory effects of UV-radiation on plants.
Speakers are from a variety of backgrounds, including plant physiologists, horticulturists, and food scientists, and include;
Dr Juan Valverde (Teagasc) Irish Phytochemical Food Network: a farm to fork approach to study phytochemicals.
Prof. Richard Mithen (Institute Food Research, UK) Broccoli, glucosinolates and health
Dr. Marcel Jansen (BEES, UCC) Dynamic changes in plant secondary metabolites during UV B acclimation in Arabidopsis thaliana.
Dr Matthijs Dekker (Wageningen UR, Netherlands) Bioactive components in plant foods
Dr Eva Rosenqvist (Copenhagen, Denmark); Plant research with end users in the horticultural production industry – what can we do with UV-B?
