Dental Surgery Clinic

The Department is responsible for treatment for patients and educational experience for dentists, undergraduate dental students, dental hygienists and dental nurses in the areas of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Radiology and Dental Emergencies.

Appointments for consultation clincics in Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery are made following receipt of approprate referral information from a Medical or Dental practitioner.

Treatment under local anaesthesia is provided in the department, whereas outpatient general anaesthesia is provided in the Dental Out Patients Department at Cork University Hospital which is adjacent to the Dental Hospital.

Dental Emergencies

  • Patients should attend where possible their own Dentists for any emergencies
  • CUDSH is operating a limited dental emergency service where patients are seen by appointment only.  Should you require an emergency appointment, please contact us on 0861587557, the phone line is open from 9 am to 1pm Monday to Friday.

Oral Health & Development

This Department comprises three divisions – Orthodontics; Paediatric Dentistry; Preventive Dentistry and Dental Public Health.   These are cohesive and collaborative academic units which embody teaching, research, clinical service, audit and related administrative elements.   The Department operates within the overall strategic plan of the Dental School and Hospital.  Teaching is provided to undergraduate students in each of these areas.  Specialist training in Orthodontics is provided in the Post Graduate Clinic.

Arrangements are in place with the HSE through Service Level Agreements in relation to their services.

Restorative Dentistry and Dental Hygiene Clinic

The Clinic of Restorative Dentistry is the largest teaching Clinic in the Dental School and Hospital contributing to both the undergraduate dental, dental hygiene and postgraduate programmes. It is responsible for delivering clinical care and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the areas of Biomaterials Science, Cariology, Endodontology, Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, Gerodontology, Operative Dentistry, and Periodontology.

Patients suitable for undergraduate training are treated under the supervision of dentists.  Waiting lists are in place, and length of time before you can be offfered and appointment may vary depending on the level of demand at any given time.
