Your Say - Impact of Visitor Restrictions in Residential Care Facilities on Family/Friends

18 Jun 2020

Do you have a relative or friend currently living in a Residential Care Facility in Ireland? What has been your experience of COVID-19 visitor restrictions? You are invited to contribute to the ERiC (Engaging Remotely in Care) Research project by completeing a 20-minute survey and help inform the development of future communication solutions.

The psychosocial and emotional impact of COVID-19 restrictive public health measures in Residential Care Facilities on visitors (namely families, guardians, and close friends) is unknown. It is also unclear what strategies are effective in supporting them to remain connected.

ERiC are conducting research to investigate the impact of COVID-19 visitor restrictions on family/guardians/close friends of people living in Residential Care Facilities (RCF) and identifying strategies in use to support remote engagement in care. This information will help to inform the development of future communication solutions.

The research will aid understanding of the impacts of restrictions and will potentially improve communication between staff, residents and families. This should reduce anxiety and loneliness, enhance remote involvement in care and provide insights into how continuous public health measures can be mitigated. Findings will inform the feasibility of sustaining such measures and how the ERiC ICT interventions could minimise the impact on stakeholders and social policy.

We are inviting you to compete our survey if you have a relative or friend currently living in a Residential Care Facility in Ireland.

The survey has 45 questions and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. No personal information is required, and the survey is anonymous.
