Dr Catherine Forde is a lecturer in the School of Applied Social Studies, UCC.  Her background is in community development and she teaches community development on qualifying undergraduate and postgraduate social work and youth and community work degree programmes.  Her main research and publication interests are community development; state-civil society relations; research, teaching and learning in social work education; and children and young people's participation.  She is co-author of the books Social Work and Community Development: A Critical Practice Perspective (Palgrave Macmillan, 2015) and Youth and Community Work in Ireland: Critical Perspectives (Blackhall Publishing, 2009).

Relevant Projects

Dr. Forde currently has a HEA/Government of Ireland-funded research project (2018) that has three aims: (i) to identify options for the internationalization and globalization of elements of the social work curriculum in Ireland through engagement between staff of the School of Applied Social Studies, University College Cork (UCC) and the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work, University of Queensland (UQ), Australia (ii) to develop a research and pedagogical relationship between UCC and UQ through the joint development of a digitized module focusing on international and global perspectives on social work practice and (iii) to conduct primary research into Irish social work students' attitudes towards internationalization and globalization of social work both before and after undertaking the new module.
