Marks and Standards
The Marks and Standards for each programme of study, which contains full details of regulations governing assessment and requirements for progression, are available at: https://www.ucc.ie/admin/registrar/marksandstandards/

Pass by Compensation
In specified programmes, students who fail one or more modules, but whose marks are above a specified minimum level, may pass those modules by compensation and thus progress to the next year of the programme.  For programme-specific details, see: https://www.ucc.ie/admin/registrar/marksandstandards/

Exemption (EX)
Candidates who pass one or more modules, but fail overall, are exempted from retaking examination in those modules they have passed. Such exemptions carry time limits. All failed/absent modules must be taken at a Supplemental Examination.

The Guide to Examinations for Staff and Students summarises the formal examination procedures and regulations, including procedures/penalties where a breach of these regulations is suspected/occurs.
It is the responsibility of each student to acquaint themselves with examination procedures and regulations, their timetable for, and locations of, examinations. Examination procedures and regulations, including The Guide to Examinations for Staff and Students, is available at: https://www.ucc.ie/en/exams/procedures-regulations/

Absence from an Examination

Mitigation (Waiver of Capping or Deferral)
A student who, under defined criteria, is prevented from attending all or part of an examination, and who has not withdrawn from the programme, may submit an application to Waive Capping at Supplemental Examination or to Defer examinations through the relevant Mitigation processes (see: https://www.ucc.ie/en/exams/procedures-regulations/).

Recheck/Appeal of Examination Results
Where the criteria are met, Recheck and Appeal of examination results is possible.  For details, see https://www.ucc.ie/en/exams/procedures-regulations/
