Urban Climate Collab presented at SHiFT Annual Conference, Lisbon
Dr. Evan Boyle presents on Urban Climate Collab: Reimagining my city through collaborations in mapping- insights from cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural learning
This presentation is a reflection of the experience of opening up to new disciplinary perspectives in order to explore sustainability in the context of Cork City. These reflections are informed by two collaborative courses that brought together participants from diverse disciplinary, cultural, and professional backgrounds to explore Cork City. The first, UNIC Autumn school, used systems thinking, futures thinking, and transdisciplinary impact orientated approaches to explore active mobility in urban contexts. The second, CASLA, facilitated collaboration between artists and climate, environmental, and ecological scientists, piloting creative methodologies as valid modes of inquiry and knowledge production. Through collaborative mapping practices, of distinctly different forms, each course culminated in a representation of the city, revealing how different approaches and positionality shape understandings of place, and how personal perspectives could be reimagined through new voices and ways of seeing.
