Exploratory workshop on collaboration for Climate Action in Cork City
Urban Climate Collab, with support from Cork City Council, brought together seven city council staff members and seven university faculty and researchers to explore our shared collaborations to meet climate action objectives within the city of Cork.
On May 13th 2026, Urban Climate Collab, with support from Cork City Council, brought together seven city council staff members and seven university faculty and researchers to explore our shared collaborations to meet climate action objectives within the city of Cork. In 2021, EU Mission: Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities was launched, with 112 European cities, including Cork, selected to participate in achieving climate neutrality by 2030. Both universities and local authorities are recognised as agents of transformational change, yet “how” local authorities and universities collaborate effectively to achieve urgent action-orientated interventions is lacking within the literature. Within this workshop, we discussed collaborations to date and how to great support and enhance these moving forward. From this we have develop 8 overarching areas of priority alongside eight immediate, practical ideas for action to support collaboration.
