Over April 27-29, University College Cork (UCC) will host the "STOCHASTICA Directions Workshop" in the Aula Maxima as part of the EU-funded COST Action STOCHASTICA, which runs over 2025-2029. A central aim of STOCHASTICA is to embed the use of the well-developed mathematical theory of Stochastic Differential Equations (SDEs) in both public sector research and in industry research. Stochastic differential equations incorporate the effects of random noise in dynamical models; these random effects are central to understanding the behaviour of, for example, weather systems, financial markets, biological and ecological systems, and energy networks.

The Local Organising Committee of the "STOCHASTICA Directions Workshop" comprises:
• Conall Kelly
• Tom Carroll
• Niall Walsh

The Scientific Committee comprises:
• Gabriel Lord (Radboud University),
• John Appleby (DCU),
• Sonja Cox (University of Amsterdam),
• Mireille Bossy (INRIA, Sophia-Antipolis)
• Conall Kelly (UCC)

The "STOCHASTICA Directions Workshop" opens the COST Action and will bring together researchers who are experts in their individual areas in academia, industry, and the semi-state sector. It will be an opportunity to discuss potential research directions of mutual interest and benefit and to propose new problems in light of the first months of activity in the Action. The list of confirmed speakers includes representatives from the HSE (health) in Ireland, Alliander (energy networks) in the Netherlands, the National Physical Laboratory and BIOSS in the UK (physics, ecology, and environment), as well as academic colleagues from all over Europe.
