In this lecture he will interrogate how Florence creates certain expectations in the reader, especially in early commentators such as Boccaccio, who constructs a personal myth: Dante the Florentine. In developing this myth, Boccaccio even goes so far as to distort the literal truth, as happens in his exposition of Inferno X.
