Description:
On behalf of the Radical Humanities Laboratory and the Department of Geography, we invite you to join us for an open, informal networking and knowledge exchange event, Confluence: Gathering for Waterbody Research & Practice, on May 16th 2025, from 1:15pm - 4:00 pm, in the Geography Library at University College Cork.
Despite the growing recognition of the vital role water plays across diverse academic and practical fields, individuals working on various aspects of water often operate in isolation, with limited opportunities for collaboration and exchange. With Confluence, we aim to bring together those across UCC (at all levels and in any role) and beyond who explore connections among and across waterbodies (from raindrops to rivers and lakes to oceans), science and society, technology, and the environment. The main objective is to foster engagement and curiosity by bringing watery scholars into conversation with one another and by identifying pathways for greater connection between academia and communities. The event programme will revolve around exploring what actions might sustain inter/transdisciplinary efforts to investigate, understand, and respond to fundamental concerns - whether historic or contemporary - related to water. As part of this agenda, we will explore and share existing knowledge, resources, and opportunities, begin to think about which values and strengths a shared-interest community focused on water might embody, and consider future possibilities for creative exploration and, dare we say, fun.
