Digital Atlas of Early Irish Carved Stone

Welcome to the Digital Atlas of Early Irish Carved Stone (DAEICS) project website.

Based in the Department of Archaeology, University College Cork, DAEICS is a collaboration with Archaeology and Palaeoecology at Queen’s University Belfast and other project partners.

We will produce the first comprehensive atlas of the carved stone monuments on the island of Ireland dating to the late prehistoric and early medieval periods (AD 1–1200). Working with local communities, detailed studies of three important collections will showcase how DAEICS can make a vital contribution to the scholarly understanding and public appreciation of carved stones.

The project is funded by the National Monuments Service of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, in partnership with the Heritage Council, through an Irish Research Council COALESCE INSTAR+ award.
