We had the pleasure of attending the International Day of Women and Girls in Science event in Aula Maxima at UCC. 

We are very proud to share that our research lab at the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences in University College Cork has been awarded Platinum Level Certification by My Green Lab. This is a fantastic recognition of our commitment to make our research activities more sustainable and respectful with the environment.

In April, our team presented the WeedTraits project poster at UCC’s “Working for Change Careers Fair” during Green Week, organised by Green Campus.

Back in March, our team took part in the ‘Grand Challenges’ Plant Science Workshop, where we engaged with over 100 first-year BEES students.

The event will take place on Tuesday, 12th November, from 4 PM to 6 PM in The Cooperage (Room G.13).

This exhibition at the UCC School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences will demonstrate how plant science can us help address important issues, such as biodiversity loss, food insecurity, climate change, pesticide use and pollution.

We are excited to share that the WeedTraits project has been featured in a recent RTÉ Brainstorm article titled "5 Research Projects Seeking to Make Farming More Sustainable".

The Annual Irish Plant Scientists' Association Association Meeting 2024 was held at UCC on June 17 and 18, bringing together researchers to discuss advancements in plant science. Our group presented posters on inflorescence photosynthesis in Avena fatua and the functional strategies of grass weeds, with Callum also delivering a flash presentation. The conference focused on various themes, including plant diversity, biotechnology, and science communication, aiming to support early career researchers.

The School of BEES recently hosted an open day at Distillery Fields to celebrate the Fascination of Plants Day, a global initiative that highlights the vital and wonderful aspects of plants in our world.

The Weedtraits group had the opportunity to participate at the Plant Science workshop of the academic year 2023/2024, organised by Dr. Eoin Lettice.

Our contribution involved presenting a compelling poster highlighting information on weeds, complemented by a display featuring our Avena fatua plants and seeds.
