Project

Introduction

The overarching aims of this project are to gain a better understanding of the physiological processes that underlie the weediness of grass weeds and to investigate how these traits affect the competition with cereal crops.

Objectives

1. Identify functional traits that enable grass weeds to combine high competitive ability with fecundity under different environmental conditions.

2. Analyse to what extent inflorescence photosynthesis contributes to extended growth and seed production.

3. Investigate the factors underlying the competitive interactions between a wild oat and barley.

4. Propose improved management practices in cereal production to help control grass weeds while reducing herbicide use.
