Culture, Gender and Age
Parkinson’s affects people from diverse backgrounds, communities and life experiences.
Everyone’s journey is unique, and identity-related factors such as culture, gender and age can influence how Parkinson's is understood, experienced and/or managed. This is sometimes referred to as intersectionality. Intersectionality asks us to view the whole person, and consider the many overlapping factors that might impact upon their lived experiences and perspectives.
Exploring these differences will help us better understand the varied experiences of people living with Parkinson's on the island of Ireland, and will support more inclusive research, care and support.
