The planning students actively contribute to the wider planning community through their annual planning conference. This conference is a lively and engaging event with international and local speakers. Past topics have included:
- 2019: Three sessions entitled “Urban Housing Initiatives”, “Reimagining the Street” and “Different Scales of Planning Policy”
- 2018: It addresses the themes of planning practice, national and metropolitan planning, and urban living and housing.
- 2017: “Planning together for the Future” In conjunction with this event, our planning students were also instrumental in hosting a consultation visit to UCC on the new national planning framework addressed by the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government.
- 2016: “Old Places, New Spaces Unlocking the Built Environment for Future Housing Need’’
Unfortunately in 2020 this conference was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The society runs social events such as quiz nights and also represent the school at events such as the Annual Irish Planning Institute conference.
