BACOPT-II - Optimisation of Data Services for Backhaul Links

Responsible:

The topic of data optimisation has gained increasing relevance due to the demands of content-rich data such as video on capacity-constrained wired and wireless access networks.

The BACOPT-II project builds directly on the previous BACOPT Innovation Partnership with Altobridge, in which UCC designed a split architecture and web acceleration protocols for optimising data transfer over backhaul links. The new project leverages the split architecture to introduce a new focus on services, specifically new content-rich data services that are highly demanding in terms of backhaul usage. This involves solving a new set of challenging research problems for mobile operators with the overall goals of improving both the user quality of experience (QoE) and link utilisation for content rich services.

The overall technical objective of the project is to quantifiably reduce the delay response and bandwidth usage for backhaul wireless links across a wide range of applications while maintaining end-user QoE.
