Professor Mary Horgan elected President of Royal College of Physicians Ireland
13 Dec 2016Professor Mary Horgan, Dean, School of Medicine has been elected as President Designate of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. The appointment is the first appointment of a woman President to that position in the RCPI in its 360 year history. Professor Mary Horgan will succeed Professor Frank Murray as President in October 2017.

New Horizons Medical Conference 2016
22 Dec 2016The annual New Horizons Research Conference took place in the Western Gateway Building, UCC on Thursday, 8th of December 2016.
The conference showcased the diverse range of translational research from Postgraduate Research, Post-Doctoral Research and Clinical Research.
The day was divided into 3 sessions. Each session encompassed a stimulating mixture of oral presentations and lectures by prominent clinician scientists and academic staff. There was also a moderated poster session with 94 posters.

UCC School of Medicine students receive HHS Awards
09 Nov 2016The Dean, Professor Mary Horgan, and Faculty and all the staff of the School of Medicine congratulate the large number of UCC Medical students receiving awards at the NUI Dr. Henry Hutchinson Stewart Medical Scholarships Award Ceremony in Dublin on 9 November, 2016. These awards are competed for annually by students and graduates of NUI constituent universities (UCC, UCD, NUI Galway and Maynooth University) and other NUI member institutions including RCSI and NCAD. The awards honour and support scholars of distinction at every stage of their academic studies. These achievements were also acknowledged by the Dean at the recent School of Medicine Prizegiving Ceremony.

New Horizons Medical Conference 2016
06 Oct 2016A Scientific Conference organised by the School of Medicine Research Committee UCC is taking place on Thursday 8th December 2016.
Free Registration will take place from 8am onwards on the day in the main foyer of the Western Gateway Building UCC.The Conference will highlight the diverse range of translational research in UCC and will include plenary sessions with short oral and poster presentations.
CPD points are pending. Those looking to claim CPD points will need to sign in and out on the day and complete a feedback questionnaire.

UCC Medical Students to enter ‘Dragons’ Den’
13 Jun 2016The School of Medicine at UCC has launched a new module for its undergraduate medical students designed to expose them to the business skills required to develop cost-effective practices.
The ‘Business Skills in Medicine’ module reaches its peak at the ‘The Big Pitch’, where student groups are invited to present their final pitch to a ‘Dragons’ Den-style’ panel of experts, which this year includes representatives from UCC’s School of Economics, IGNITE UCC’s Graduate Business Innovation Programme, Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) and Bank of Ireland.

Prep for Med 2016 - UCC Checks-up Tomorrows Doctors
04 Feb 2016Last Friday, the 29th January 2016, 100 school children from across Ireland descended to University College Cork’s (UCC) School of Medicine to attend the fifth annual ‘Prep-For Med’. This hugely, and increasingly popular programme, allows transition year pupils from across Ireland to experience both the life and the facilities available to Medical students’ in the School of Medicine, based in UCC’s College of Medicine and Health.
