Entry Criteria

2025 Entry Criteria - Direct Entry Medicine - 5 Year Programme

Below are the minimum requirements for your application to be considered by UCC:

A Levels:

3 subjects - AAA minimum - Chemistry + 1 of either Physics or Biology + one other subject (in one sitting).  If Maths is not presented as an A Level a minimum A in GCSE Maths is required.

4 subjects - AAAB minimum - Chemistry + 2 of either Physics, Biology or Maths + one other subject (in one sitting).  Must present an A in Chemistry.  If Maths is not presented as an A Level a minimum A in GCSE Maths is required.

International Baccalaureate (IB): 

36 excluding bonus. Core points to include 3 HL subjects of which Chemistry and one other science subject (Physics, Biology or Maths) at a minimum score of 6.  If a third science subject is presented at SL, it must have a minimum score of 6.  All subjects must be taken in one sitting.

English Language Requirements:

IELTS - 6.5 (minimum individual sections 6.5)

TOEFL - 90 (minimum Listening 23 \ Reading 21 \ Speaking 22 \ Writing 23)

University of Cambridge: 176 overall with not less than 176 in each element of the test 

Pearson PTE Academic: Minimum of 63 (with at least 63 for each item in the Communicative Skills section)

Duolingo English Test (DET): DET 120 with a minimum score of 120 in each individual section.

2025 Entry Criteria - Graduate Entry Medicine - 4 Year Programme

Applicants must hold, or expect to hold by July of the year of entry to Graduate Entry Medicine, a minimum second class honours, grade one (2H1 or equivalent) result in their first honours bachelor degree (NFQ level 8). The degree can be in any discipline.

Applicants must provide an MCAT or GAMSAT score.  Applicants are required to have taken MCAT within three years of the date of entry or GAMSAT within two years of the date of entry and to provide the MCAT / GAMSAT score report with their application.
