My academic practice is rooted in an ethos of transformation, care, and academic rigor, underpinned by principles of EDI - from inception to the realisation of societal benefits. I am particularly fascinated by international mobilities and the complex and varying forms of inequalities that characterise their dynamics. I have published widely in this area in leading journals, such as: Ethnic and Racial Studies, Global Networks, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Mobilities, etc. My research is highly collaborative, based on good principles of knowledge exchange and impact; my work on migration in the Western Balkans region was the basis for a REF2021 Impact Case Study.
I am regularly concerned with outreach and accessibility of my academic work from non-academic audiences. For this purpose, I have contributed writings and other works to various platforms, for e.g. The Conversation, IOM-World Migration Report 2020, LSE Blog, Advance HE. I have engaged with creative methods and also authored an exhibition as part of Festival 31/Refugee Week 2015 in Liverpool. I am currently an Artist Member at Studio Lab at FACT Liverpool (2025-26) where I am learning about digital and creative methods. I have also engaged with various platforms and medias such as SBS News (Australia), Citizens’ Channel (Albania), Worldwide Wednesday (Liverpool), RTK (Kosovo).
Academic service is an important focus of my work. I am an Associate Editor of Comparative Migration Studies and an editorial board member of Ethnic and Racial Studies, Irish Journal of Applied Social Studies. Since 2024, I act as an International Jury Member for the IMISCOE Maria Ioannis Baganha Prize. I furthermore shape scholarship in the broad area of social sciences as a UKRI Talent Peer Review College Member (since 2023) and as a reviewer for different funding schemes, such as British Academy Small Grants and Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF). Internationally, I have been a reviewer for the EU Commission funding schemes since 2018 (Horizon Europe, Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund [AMIF] and Marie Curie) and upon invitation for various funding schemes in Europe. I am an active member of the migration scholar community in the UK and internationally, responding to migration challenges through open letters, joint articles that challenge the direction of migration scholarship.
I am a dedicated lecturer and have substantial experience of teaching in the UK HE since 2010. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2014. My teaching style is rooted in enquiry-based, participatory, and critical pedagogies. As a research mentor, I have had the pleasure to work with dozens of younger researchers, such as MA, MRes and PhD students and post-docs. I remain committed to serving through my academic practice and to contributing to the achievement of shared societal goals.
