IERG PhD Researcher Colm Gallagher speaks at DMBD 2016 conference, Bali
12 Jul 2016IERG PhD Researcher Colm Gallagher travels to Bali, Indonesia to present a paper on "Utilising the Cross Industry Standard Process for Data Mining to Reduce Uncertainty in the Measurement and Verification of Energy Savings" at the First International Conference on Data Mining and Big Data there.
The theme of DMBD 2016 was "Serving Life with Data Science". Data mining refers to the activity of processing large data sets in the search for pertinent information and knowledge that would otherwise be unknown. DMBD 2016 provided an excellent opportunity and forum for academia and practitioners to present and discuss the latest scientific results, methods, and innovative ideas and advantages in theories, technologies, and applications in data mining, big data, and intelligent computing. Data mining in the energy industry was a key area of interest for DMBD 2016

IERG PhD Researcher Colm Gallagher wins ACEEE scholarship to attend conference in California

IERG reaches UK Water Industry Achievement Awards final
23 Mar 2016The groups research led by Brendan Walsh under the guidance Dr Dominic O'Sullivan has been selected as a finalist in the section: "Water Resource Management Initiative of the Year". IERG is working in partnership with a multi-national healthcare manufacturing company which is constantly striving to improve its green efficiencies and move towards a more environmentally sustainable operation. During its research, IERG identified water management within the company as a means of progressing this objective and is working to enhance this area.

IERG Water Research published in Engineers Ireland Journal
18 Aug 2015An article entitled "Industrial Water Demand-side Management" has been published by the Engineers Journal, the official journal of Engineers Ireland, which is the professional representative body. Written by Brendan Walsh, a Chartered Engineer and PhD candidate within the IERG under the tutorship of Dr Dominic O'Sullivan, the article discusses the criticality of the topic. It also considers the water-energy nexus, how UCC manage water as Energy and the requirement for a value-added system.

IERG Present Factory of the Future at Seafest 2015
18 Aug 2015IERG were represented on July 10th and 11th 2015 by Dr. Dominic O’Sullivan, Dr. Ken Bruton, Kevin Leahy, Andrew McGregor and Seán Hayes at the opening of UCC’s new research facility in Ringaskiddy, the Beaufort Building. To mark the occasion the “SeaFest 2015” event was held to demonstrate among other things the benefits achievable by intelligently managing renewable energy resources such as wind and wave power. IERG researcher reaches final of UCC Doctoral Showcase
02 Jun 2015Seán Hayes recently competed in the final of the UCC Doctoral Showcase, the aims of which are to encourage UCC’s research students to develop innovative new ways to communicate their research. Seán presented his research Industrial Energy Usage Reduction in the Three Minute Thesis category, which invites participants to explain the impact of their research within the restricted time, using no more than one slide.

IERG Project Wins SEAI Research Award 2014
15 Nov 2014The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) Energy Awards 2014 were held on the 13th of November and an Intelligent Efficiency Research Group (IERG) project, Automated fault Detection for Air Handling Units (AHU), won the Research Award. The award was presented to Dr. Dominic O’Sullivan and Dr. Ken Bruton on the night. The project has previously won the UCC ICT Invention of the Year award in 2013.

Sean Murray wins Award at the UCC Entrepreneur of the Year Competition
10 Oct 2014IERG member, Sean Murray, won a Merit Award at the University College Cork, University Entrepreneur of the Year Competition 2014, for the BRaSS (Building Retrofit Support Software) developed as part of his PhD Research.

14 Apr 2014The Engineers Ireland Cork Region Annual Seminar took place on 9th April, with the focus of this year's event being "Digital State: Evolving Engineering". A number of speakers from a variety of sectors were invitated to present on how information, comunication and technology is playing an ever increasing role in engineering functions.
