Resources for Schools: Supporting Children with Additional Needs during School Closure
When COVID-19 resulted in the closure of schools, staff at the School of Education reached out to their colleagues in the National Association of Principals and Deputies (NAPD) offering their support during this extraordinary time.
For Kevin Cahill and Dan O'Sullivan, their focus was on supporting inclusive and special education needs. Having both worked in Cork schools, including as a Learning Support/Resource teachers, they understood how vital it would be to ensure these support services could continue whilst children had to stay home.
So they set about creating a resource for supporting children with additional needs during school closures. The document provides advice and resources useful in supporting these children in post-primary schools as they, their teachers and their parents navigate the new world of homeschooling.
With the support of Kieran Golden, Principal Mayfield Community School this key resource was disseminated by NAPD for the attention of Special Education Teachers in schools.
