22 November - Mining Memories: New Explorations in Cinema, Memory and the Past
A one-day symposium that explores cinema's engagement with memories and with the past; with cinema-going memories and oral histories; and with the methodological practices employed.
Keynote from distinguished scholar, Professor Annette Kuhn, Professor and Research Fellow in Film Studies, Queen Mary, University of London plus 21 international speakers, presenting on a range of topics

This symposium is a collaboration between the CACSSS-funded Cork Movie Memories project, led by Dan O'Connell and Gwenda Young of the Department of Film and Screen Media; Alphaville: Journal of Film and Screen; and the Irish Audiences Research Network. It brings together international scholars who are working in the field of cinema history; memory and culture; and histories of cinema-going. Key topics that will be explored include memory and trauma; film's relation to macro and micro-histories; the cinema-going experience; and methodological approaches to researching memory and history.
