UCC researchers have developed Ireland’s first national Coastal Exposure Index, pinpointing where communities, cultural heritage and other coastal assets face the greatest exposure. First national map reveals where Ireland’s coast is most exposed to erosion and flooding

New research provides the first national-scale picture of coastal exposure to climate hazards around Ireland. The study identifies coastal communities and heritage sites along Ireland’s most exposed stretches of coastline. Findings show that 38% of Ireland’s coastline benefits from potential exposure reduction provided by coastal habitats.

Major €2 million European project invites public to help map the Viking legacy. Sounds of the Vikings will return to Cork after 1,000 years with an exclusive performance by Einar Selvik. The iViking App will allow users to discover Viking sites and stories while helping to map the enduring legacy of the Vikings across Europe.

The Annals of Inisfallen to go on public display in University College Cork

Close to a thousand years old, the manuscript is considered one of the most important surviving records of medieval Ireland  Recording the Past: The Annals of Inisfallen and the Making of Irish History exhibition opens at the Glucksman, UCC, from 2 September to 1 November 2026.
