Alumni Spotlight: Cormac McGarry, Maritime Security & Intelligence Expert

Cormac McGarry has built a career around understanding risk in some of the world’s most challenging maritime environments, with experience ranging from advising vessels navigating high-risk waters to acting as an expert witness in vessel loss arbitrations involving the war in Ukraine, piracy in Nigeria and cocaine smuggling in the Americas. He has also carried out on-the-ground intelligence gathering in places like Dos Bocas and Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico, to improve and inform maritime security services for clients operating in the Bay of Campeche.

Aaron Kohrs came to UCC in 2015 to do an MA in International Relations, drawn by the University's welcoming academic community and global outlook. He has recently released his first book, Big Dreams Back Home, a memoir that challenges traditional ideas of success by showing how a meaningful life can be built through service, relationships and community involvement.
