Ireland’s climate is changing and the impacts of these changes are already being felt. As our climate continues to change, we will need to make adjustments and adapt to the changed climate conditions. Adaptation involves anticipating and responding to the impacts of climate change and taking appropriate action to prevent or minimize the damage they can cause, or take advantage of any opportunities that these changes might bring.

Climate Ireland is inspired by the needs of stakeholders and their experiences of climate change and adaptation. Climate Ireland works as a research service that connects and integrates scientific research, policy making and adaptation practice for the purposes of enhancing adaptation decision making in Ireland. This allows us to bring together the key stakeholder groups who are responsible for addressing the challenges that climate change will bring.

Our work revolves around three key areas:

1. Raising awareness and increasing understanding of climate change and climate adaptation;

2. Providing the information and data required for climate adaptation planning in Ireland;

3. Supporting the development of adaptation plans.

Climate Ireland is being designed and developed by the Centre for Marine and Renewable Energy (MaREI) at University College Cork (UCC) and the Irish Centre for High End Computer (ICHEC) at the National University of Ireland, Galway and as part of the EPA-funded project A Climate Information Platform for Ireland (ICIP).
