We are delighted to announce that one of the world’s premier experts on the evolution and palaeobiology of dinosaurs, Prof. Steve Brusatte, will visit UCC next week to deliver the Annual Ted Nevill Lecture, in the Boole 4 Lecture theatre.
Prof. Brusatte’s talk – “The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs” – will review some of the latest research by his group and others on the major events in the evolutionary history of the dinosaurs, from their origins, early evolution and radiation, to their ultimate demise.
Prof. Brusatte is a vertebrate palaeontologist and global expert in the evolution and palaeobiology of dinosaurs, mammals and other vertebrate groups. He is a prolific author for both the scientific community and the general public – he has written over 150 scientific papers, published six bestselling popular science books, and described over 20 new species of fossil animals. Much of his current work focusses on understanding major evolutionary radiations and extinctions.
Prof. Brusatte was one of the key scientific advisors to the most recent “Walking with Dinosaurs” programme and the 2022 blockbuster film “Jurassic World: Dominion”.
This promises to be a really special event with a very accomplished scientist and science communicator.
The event is hosted by UCC’s School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences and the Cork Geological Association, with support from the SFI-funded Ireland’s Fossil Heritage programme and the European Research Council.
The event will be followed by light refreshments. All welcome!
