Sustainable Futures skills mapping for SMEs

UCC’s Sustainable Futures project aims to create a suite of training and academic programmes that directly address the skills gap within business in relation to sustainability. Particular emphasis is placed on enabling businesses to embed sustainability practices right across the business operations in order to move to a low carbon economy. As part of the project in March the ERI and the Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs) of Cork South and North West conducted a productive workshop on sustainability skills mapping for SMEs to identify the skills and competencies required by enterprise to pursue sustainable strategies within their business. With an audience of representatives of client companies from LEOs, predominantly business owners and operators from micro, small and medium enterprises, the workshop allowed the Sustainable Futures team to gather qualitative data which will inform the development of future LEO/UCC supports for SMEs.
