STOCHASTICA Voices – Stakeholders

Stakeholders do more than use research outcomes — they help shape the questions we ask. Our recent Industry Consultation Report highlighted the need for stochastic methods that combine  mathematical rigour with practical usability, and for stakeholders to help define future research priorities.

With STOCHASTICA Stakeholder Voices, we give space to the people behind this dialogue. We begin  with Prof. Giulia Di Nunno (University of Oslo) and Dr Katie O’Brien (Health Protection Surveillance Centre, Ireland), sharing their perspectives on connecting stochastic research with practical challenges.

The exchange works both ways: real-world problems inspire new mathematics; mathematical ideas open up new possibilities in practice. Bringing together domain expertise, data and computational methods helps us learn across disciplines and make better-informed decisions under uncertainty.

STOCHASTICA Voices – International Women's Day

On International Women’s Day, we continue our STOCHASTICA Voices initiative by sharing reflections and experiences from the Management Committee!

Our colleagues share personal perspectives on building a research path, navigating challenges in science, and creating supportive and inclusive research environments. These remind us that scientific progress is not only driven by ideas, but also by the communities that nurture them!

STOCHASTICA Voices – The International Day of Girls and Women in Science

On the International Day of Girls and Women in Science (February 11, 2026), we join the global community in recognising the essential contributions of girls and women to science, research, and innovation! At STOCHASTICA, this is an opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the women who help strengthen our network every day through their creativity and dedication.

On this occasion, we are launching STOCHASTICA Voices, a new initiative dedicated to sharing perspectives from across our community. This first edition is devoted to the women of our network. Through their work in mathematics, computation, and applications, they shape not only research directions, but also the communities we work in.

We begin by highlighting the voices of women in the STOCHASTICA Core Group:
