SOE PhD student awarded a prestigious Heidenhain Scholarship

Engineering PhD student, Tinghao Liu, under the supervision of Dr. Guangbo Hao, has been awarded a prestigious Heidenhain Scholarship by The European Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (euspen) for attending the euspen’s 24th International Conference and Exhibition to be held in Dublin, Ireland. The scholarship will cover his  conference fee and a networking dinner and single contribution of €300 towards his accommodation and subsistence costs.

Scholarships are awarded to researchers in recognition of strong academic accomplishment and significant potential in the field of metrology, precision manufacturing, sensors, machine tools, automation and measuring instruments performance. 

There will be a short ceremony taking place on Wednesday 12th June 2024 currently scheduled at 16:30 - 16:40 where he will be recognised and identified as a winner of the Heidenhain scholarships for 2024.

Tinghao will present his paper “Precision polishing platform based on a flexure-based constant force mechanism” in a poster in this conference as the primary author. Tinghao is currently a 3rd-year PhD student, working on his thesis on the large-deflection nonlinear modelling and design of compliant mechanisms. His research is supported by the China Scholarship Council (CSC). He did his MEngSc in Mechanical Engineering at UCC.
