The BIS UG Research Fellowship is part of the BIS Research Roadmap. Specifically, it is part of the “producing research graduates” pillar.

The fellowship raises student awareness of research (by BIS staff members) and affords them the opportunity to explore what a future in research might look and feel like.

BIS II and BIS IV students writeup their research work for

(i) presentation at the annual IAM conference and

(ii) submission for publication in another outlet thereafter.

All BIS II UG students have to apply for a fellowship (selecting from a list of 4/5 staff led project proposals) and successfully come through a selection process. See below for the selection process details.
BIS IV students are shortlisted based on academic performance in a core module (e.g. top 5 performers). Fellowships are offered to the top performers, although they may not be taken up given the students existing plans for next steps. Fellowships are not offered to another BIS IV student not originally on the shortlist.

Applications:

Opens in late-March. Closes in mid-April.

Selection process:

For BIS II there is an interview with a panel of 2 BIS staff.

For BIS IV candidates (and their projects) are selected by the same 2 BIS staff. Just to note, one of these staff members is one of the programme directors (as the BIS IV fellowship builds on the student’s work from a BIS IV core module [on emerging topics] delivered by the programme director).

Each student is eligible for one award in a specific year (BIS II or BIS IV). A successful BIS II student could be selected in BIS IV also.
The selection committee is made up of a BIS staff member overseeing the fellowship scheme and another BIS staff member (typically one of the BIS degree programme directors).
