Sanctuary Scholarships (Undergraduate Degrees)

The UCC Sanctuary Scholarship applicaiton process for programme intake 2025-2026 is now complete. All awardees have been contacted.
Applications for 2026-2027 programme intake will commence in June 2026.
The scholarship includes:
- Fee waiver
- Bursary
NB: Accommodation is not included in this award.
The scholarship is open to candidates who are:
- asylum seekers or refugees
- ineligible for State educational supports
- living within commutable distance from UCC
- in receipt of an offer of place at UCC for an undergraduate degree through the CAO*
*To apply you just must have made a CAO application and be able to provide a CAO number on your form. An offer of place is required if you are to take up a scholarship offer.
Scholarships will not be offered to those who already hold a university or college degree.
Application Process
The process in 2025 is as follows:
- The application process for a UCC Sanctuary Scholarship for 2025 entry to an undergraduate degree is now closed.
It is in two parts:

- Part 1 covers your personal details and eligibility criteria (see below);
- Part 2 covers your personal statement and is not submitted until you have an offer of place in UCC through the CAO.
Should there be more applicants than scholarships on offer, decisions will be made based on the personal statement.

Please Note: For the UCC Sanctuary Scholarships, applicants present from the Mature Student, QQI, and Leaving Certificate streams. For this reason, a decision regarding the outcome of the scholarships can take a few months. Your patience is appreciated as we need to ensure all applicants have a chance to accept their first offer (to be eligible for the Sanctuary Scholarship an applicant's first choice has to be a UCC programme). The committee will meet to determine the outcome of the Sanctuary Scholarships following the Round 1 acceptance deadline. Visit the CAO webpage to review the key calendar dates.
