Funding

As you are aware, a letter is being sent to all research staff within UCC requesting an automatic deduction of €2.50 per month from salary.

The first national meeting of third-level contract research staff will take place in the Alexander Hotel, Dublin.

Women in Science, Engineering & Technology – WiSET

In July 2006, University College Cork (UCC) was awarded one of three Institute Development Awards by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) to promote women’s involvement within its education, research and academic environment with a view to promoting their increased participation and advancement in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) academic and research careers. ARCS, UCC have just launched the "Contract Research Staff - Have Your Say Survey".

Tim Yeomans, a post-doc scientist from Trinity College Dublin (and former UCC graduate) will be talking about life in Ireland as a contract researcher on The Last Word on Today FM tomorrow March 21, around 6 pm.

At the recent NQAI Conference on Research at Farmleigh, he (Paddy Healy) forcefully raised the scandal of the subjection of research staff ("postdoctoral fellows") to a system of cheap casual labour with inadequate pension provision.
