Research Image of the Year

This award recognises the exceptional representation of research through the medium of photography, art or graphic design. This image should be in the context of the calendar year 2024. Nominations can be made by any UCC staff member.

Evaluation Criteria

Overall Impact of Image

  • Visual appeal and aesthetic quality of the image.
  • Ability to capture attention and evoke curiosity about the research.

Relevance of the Image to the Supporting Text

  • Clarity and effectiveness of the connection between the image and the research story.
  • How well the image complements and enhances the supporting narrative.

 
Effectiveness in Engaging Viewer with the Research

  • Ability of the image and narrative together to communicate the research to a non-specialist audience.
  • Demonstration of creativity and originality in presenting the research visually.

 Scientific or Scholarly Accuracy

  • Accuracy of the image in representing the research (e.g., no misleading or exaggerated elements).
  • Alignment with the ethical and factual integrity of the research.

 Innovation & Creativity

  • Use of innovative or creative techniques to convey the research visually.
  • Demonstration of originality in the visual representation.
