History of the Geology Garden
The Geology Garden, located outside the Butler Building on the North Mall Campus, was erected in 2013. Large samples, collected mostly from quarries, represent a broad cross-section of Irish bedrock geology, from limestone deposited in a warm tropical sea to a metamorphic rock that has travelled to the base of the Earth’s crust and back again. The garden is a resource for undergraduate teaching and is regularly featured in outreach programmes
