Douwe VanSinderen
Biography
Professor Douwe van Sinderen holds an MSc degree in Biochemistry and a PhD degree (1994) in Molecular Genetics (University of Groningen, The Netherlands), and holds a personal chair as Professor of Molecular Microbiology in the School of Microbiology. His research interests include the molecular biology of bacteriophages infecting lactic acid bacteria, and comparative and functional genomics of bifidobacteria, which represent common gut commensals of mammals with many reported health benefits. He co-authored well over 500 peer-reviewed publications (of which two co-authorships in Nature, eight in PNAS USA, one in Nature Communications, two in Microbiome and three in ISME Journal), contributed over 30 book chapters, was co-editor of3 books, and is listed as inventor on more than 20 patents/patent filings. He is featured on the Clarivate™ list of Highly Cited Researchers (for several consecutive years). His h-index, according to Web of Science: 82 (using ‘van sinderen d or vansinderen d or sinderen d’ as author search terms); according to Google Scholar: 101.
