Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) is the largest and most prestigious university in Portugal and one of the leading European universities. Heir to university tradition of over 7 centuries ULisboa acquired its current configuration in July 2013 following the merger of the former Universidade Tecnica de Lisboa and Universidade de Lisboa. ULisboa brings together the various areas of knowledge having a privileged position to monitor to contemporary evolution of science technology art studies and humanities. The quality of teaching research innovation and culture of ULisboa attracts and increasing number of talents from around the world. ULisboa is committed to strengthening its capacity for action and influence in international strategic areas developing more partnerships with Brazil China and the community of Portuguese language countries.
The university has 18 schools faculties and institutes and 462 programmes (Undergraduate MSC and PhD) covering most of the scientific technical social and artistic knowledge areas. The total number of students is around 48,000 (11,000 graduated in 2013) and has a teaching staff of over 2,700. The annual budget is around 316 million of which 48% is private revenues. The University hosts 81 research units of which 84% have been rated as excellent or very good delivering over 4,600 papers in international journals (Reference year, 2013)
