Hosted by University College Cork December 14th and 15th 2019 with partners from University Osnabruck, Univesity of Lisboa and CERES in attendance.

Am Mittwoch, den 09.10.2019 sind wir in Aljezur in unserer Unterkunft angekommen und wurden herzlich von Astrid und Axel begrüßt. Nach der Einführung in das Projekt haben wir uns verschiedene Wälder und Bäume angeschaut (natürliche Wälder, Korkeichenwälder, Pinienwälder und Medronho Bäume). Nachder Rückkehr in die Unterkunft blieb uns Zeit zur Erarbeitung des Dragon Den.

Touristische Wahrnehmung der Landnutzung

Unser Studienprojekt beschäftigt sich übergeordnet mit dem Eukalyptus Anbau in der Algarve und dessen Folgen. In unseren vier Kleingruppen werden unterschiedliche Themen aufgegriffen, wie zum Beispiel die Wahrnehmung der Bevölkerung und der Touristen sowie der wirtschaftliche Faktor für die Algarve.

Risk research is an important issue in human geography. It combines environmental and social aspects in a spatial context. 

Wir sind jetzt schon seit fast einer Woche in Aljezur und wohnen bei Axel und Astrid im Haus. In den ersten Tagen haben wir viel über den Eukalyptusanbau rund um Aljezur erfahren. Wir sind zu den verschiedenen Pflanzungen gefahren und haben uns über die Stadien des Eukalyptuswachstums informiert.

Hiya, welcome to Lydia’s blog. I’m from west cork and in my third year of zoology in UCC. I’m going to give you an insight into our last 2 weeks on the IFiT Erasmus Algarve Project. 

First, let me introduce myself, my name is Eduardo Ribeiro, I’m 23 years old and I’m about to finish my degree in Geology by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. I was informed of this project through my college and I thought “two weeks with everything paid in Aljezur? Count me in! “, I applied, and surprisingly, I was accepted.

Hello! My name is Dean Anthony Notaro and I am a MSc Marine Biology student at University College Cork (UCC), Ireland. I am currently undertaking research in the area of shellfish health, looking into various therapies which can help reduce bacterial and viral pathogens in shellfish, specifically the Pacific Oyster (Crassostrea gigas). 

Hi everyone, Liane Costello here checking in from the Innovating Field Trips (IFiT) Erasmus+ programme in the stunning surroundings of Aljezur, Portugal. I am a student studying at University College Cork. I have just finished my post-graduate certificate in Marine Biology and am set to start the masters programme in September 2019.

Welcome to the first blog post of the Innovating Field Trips (IFiT) Erasmus+ programme. IFiT is an integrated, field-based research project which brings together scientists, educators and students from a range of natural science fields such as geology, geography, ecology, plant science, marine biology and zoology. Our group consists of undergraduate, Masters, and PhD students from Ireland, Portugal and Germany, so not only are we learning through immersive field-based research, but also by living together, sharing our backgrounds, cultures, and interests. Because of this, we have noticed how easy and enjoyable it is to learn from each other’s interests and expertise compared to traditional learning methods.

IFit fieldcourse now accepting applications 

Having spent the afternoon of 2nd November and the following morning, of this our first Transnational Project Meeting, discussing learning outcomes and fieldcourse logistics, during the second afternoon the whole group visited the Vale da Meia.  

The teams from Osnabruck and Cork met over breakfast at the CERES base in Arrifana.  This was followed by the first trip to the field, to reconnoitre sites for the TTT and the student field trips.  

The first trans-national meeting of the IFiT project team took place on the 2nd-3rd November 2018. The meeting was hosted by CERES at their center in Arrafana, Aljezur, Portugal. There were 17 participants from the four partner institutions in attendance.
