The id+ Project, University College Cork (UCC), Ireland

in association with

joinIN Inclusive Higher Education Network, Europe

invites you to the

European State of the Art (ESOTA) Conference

on

Inclusion in Action:

Creative and Critical Insights from Programmes

for Students with Intellectual Disability in Higher Education

The Conference will be held in University College, Cork (Ireland) on December 4th and 5th, 2024.

Goals of the Conference

Article 24 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) is clear that: people with intellectual disabilities (ID):

  • Have the right to go to college and university and
  • To be included in learning with other students

This conference is a chance to look at 2 areas:

  1. What inclusive education is like for people with ID, for people who teach and other staff in colleges and universities.
  2. What are the things in practice that make inclusive education work for people who are learning, teaching and taking part in social and other activities in colleges and universities.

The conference is a chance to do 3 things:

1. For people with intellectual disabilities:

  • to show what they need to be and feel included and
  • what stops them from being and feeling included.

2. For staff and students with ID to share their research and experience of education in college and universities. This includes:

  • Plans and planning for courses and programmes for students with ID.
  • What teachers do to include students with ID in learning.
  • What supports are put in place for learning and social and other activities.
  • What training is there for staff and other students to support students with ID.

3. Find out and share what works to include people with ID in college and university.
