Animals on Ice: Extinction in an Age of Cryoconservation (PI: Dr. Sarah Bezan) is a 2 year interdisciplinary project that explores how meanings of extinction are shifting in light of recent technological developments in cryoconservation. Through art-science exploration, the collaborators Sarah Bezan, Adam Searle (University of Nottingham), Robert McKay (University of Sheffield), Peter Sands (University of York), and Lucy Mercer (University of Exeter) worked together to examine cultural and textual representations of thawing/freezing in relation to biodiversity loss.

This half-day event explored how we know and interpret difficult, recent pasts in the North of Ireland, focusing on two main themes: institutional abuse; and gendered experiences and sexual violence. It included two panel discussions and a keynote address by investigative journalist, author and former BBC reporter Chris Moore. Professor Laura McAtackney opened the event.  

Friday September 5, 2025 saw a community of scholars and artists working in and with sound gather in UCC for (Un)Silencing: A Symposium on Sonic Practice & Research.

On May 29th 2025, a symposium was held at UCC to introduce and workshop a new theoretical intervention: Blue Death Studies.

Friday 25 April saw the launch of an important new book - Prisoners’ Bodies: Activism, Health, and the Prisoners’ Rights Movement in Ireland, 1972–1985, by Dr Oisín Wall (School of History and Radical Humanities Laboratory, UCC).

On April 2nd 2025 a Feminist Visual Activism Zine-making workshop was held at UCC.

This panel discussion event addressed critical questions about current trends and historical legacies in contemporary migration scholarship and research.  

Radical Futures, the inaugural conference of the Radical Humanities Laboratory, took place on 8 – 9 May.

Dr. Stephen Roddy launched his new album, Leviathan, with a performance and discussion at the Radical Humanities Laboratory.
