Outline

Module Goal: To equip students with the theoretical and practical knowledge to integrate GCDE into their teaching practice or educational context, fostering an understanding of global interdependencies, social, political and economic justice, sustainability, and human rights.

The module explores the theory and practice of Global Citizenship and Development Education (GCDE). It covers the global human development, historical and policy contexts of GCDE. Themes such as:
  • Global interdependence, sustainable development, poverty, global inequality, geopolitics, gender, war, financial justice, colonialism, the SDGs, food security, modern slavery and forced migration are explored as they relate to the educational context of participants. The module covers pedagogical approaches to GCDE, including skills development, methodology, curriculum design and assessment. It places strong emphasis on ‘transformative action for social change’, including through partnerships with local and international non-governmental organisations and communities.
