Over the past 20 years, INFOMAR and the INSS have undertaken a worldclass and ambitious plan to map the entirety of Irelands seafloor territory. The most prolific output from these projects is the ‘Real Map of Ireland’, an extensive map of the Irish seafloor that underpins key policy decision and supports cutting edge research as well as various economy-supporting industries. However, magnetometry data acquired during these surveys have not been processed. This project aims to develop an open-source software embedded within a GUI that can pre-process INFOMAR magnetometry data and export magnetic anomaly grids and shapefiles. It aims to pilot the software across a large swath of the Irish Seafloor via creation of a map of Magnetic anomalies along the South coast of Ireland. An SOPwill be developed SOP for subsequent users.

Please contact us for full project documentation once available. The purpose of this study is to provide solutions to the following problems:

  1. Provide a publicly available, easy-to-use tool that can be used to reliably and accurately process INFOMAR magnetometry data.
  2. Design a statistical model to identify different classes of anomalies from magnetometer survey data.
  3. Identify an approach to account for the variability in the magnetic surveys from different regions.
