Outline
Module Objective: To provide a detailed overview of advanced assessment of hearing and habilitation in children aged 6 months and upwards.
Module Content: This module will discuss the principles of advanced assessment of hearing and habilitation in children aged 6 months and older. The module will focus on the behavioural audiological assessment and habilitation in infants and younger children within the context of child-centred and family friendly services, as well as the epidemiology and differential diagnosis of hearing loss in this population.
Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Characterise a wide range of behavioral assessments of hearing for infants and children.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how to select appropriate assessments based on the maturational and developmental stages of infancy and childhood.
- Critically evaluate theories underlying the management of hearing loss, including hearing aid fitting, verification and validation for children.
- Critically evaluate the literature pertinent to the assessment and management of hearing loss in the paediatric population.
