Outline

Learning Objective
To address the impact of adult hearing loss in terms of communication and quality of life and evaluate strategies for supporting adults with hearing loss, including those with special needs
 
Module Content: This will include:
• The impact of sudden and progressive hearing loss in adults.
• Consideration of the psychological and social impacts of hearing loss, and the models which inform our understanding of hearing related disabilities.
• Further topics include shared decision making in rehabilitation, as well as recognizing patient preferences in the use of amplification and assistive technology.
 
A mission of the module is to engage a diverse group of allied health, educational and medical professionals in expanding and progressing their professional capacities in relation to hearing and balance related patient needs. A distinct benefit of the module is the opportunity for networking across the disciplines.

There are two options for taking this module non credit bearing for CPD purposes as outlined here or credit bearing see (https://www.ucc.ie/en/ct6108/) for further information. Core modules (10 credits) are available annually and elective modules (5 credits) are available biannually.
 
CPD certificates will be issued upon completion of the module through canvas catalog UCC’s CPD platform. To register for the course you will be required to register with UCC open. All lecture materials will be made available to you on Canvas Catalog.
 
Timetable with exact location details in Brookfield Health & Science Complex and mode of delivery will be confirmed closer to the date and once registration is complete.
