Teaching Methods

Teaching methods include: lectures, workshops, anatomy labs (FLAME Lab) and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) tutorials. PBL tutorials involve two three hour discussion groups where a problem based on a real-life case is presented to the group. Under the direction of a tutor, students will be encouraged to discuss the issues arising in the case, use prescribed readings to acquire knowledge and apply this knowledge to the case. The aim of PBL is to encourage independent, self-directed learning in group settings. PBL encourages students to reflect and analyse thoughts drawn from reading and discussion with peers. In this way, students are prepared to develop the functioning knowledge which allows them to integrate the academic knowledge base, the skills required for that profession and the context for using them to solve problems in the workplace. Students are graded on their contributions in class and written assignments.
