The Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at UCC is a leading hub of innovation and research dedicated to transforming lives through the power of occupation. Our research agenda aligns with the UCC Futures focus areas of Ageing and Brain Science, Children and Collective Social Futures. Our academic staff pursue groundbreaking research in occupational science and therapy, with a strong emphasis on implementation science to ensure that evidence-based interventions are effectively translated into real-world practice. We focus on critical areas such as youth mental health, parenting support, technology enhanced practice and stroke rehabilitation, addressing the complex needs of diverse populations.  

From engaging undergraduate students in community-driven projects to pioneering postgraduate research on play  we tackle pressing societal challenges. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and a commitment to collaboration, our research shapes the future of occupational therapy education, practice, and policy—empowering individuals and communities to thrive through meaningful participation and social inclusion.
