Position:
Research Support Officer
Louise Costello is a UCD graduate with a BSc in Biomedical, Health and Life Sciences. She previously worked as a Research Assistant in the Centre for Experimental Pathogen Host Research (CEPHR) under Prof. Paddy Mallon, specialising in infectious disease biobanking. During this time, she processed clinical samples for the All‑Ireland Infectious Diseases Biobank (AIID), the National Irish COVID Biobank (NICB), and several clinical studies including SWIFT and Mpox‑Vax. She also contributed to the NICB biobank at the Trinity Translational Medicine Institute (TTMI) under Suzanne Bracken.
Louise has now joined Cancer Research @UCC to support Prof. Seamus O’Reilly on the ‘Greening a Chemotherapy Day Ward’ project. This study aims to reduce the environmental impact of chemotherapy administration by integrating sustainability principles into prescribing. This will involve evaluating alternative formulations to decrease plastic waste and promoting social prescribing and lifestyle‑based interventions that support both patient wellbeing and planetary health. The project is funded by the HSE SPARK Innovation Award.
