Dr. Arpit Shukla, a Marie Curie Fellow at University College Cork, is conducting groundbreaking research in the Tangney lab (CancerResearch@UCC). His project, "EPS-producing Bugs as Drugs," focuses on utilizing microbial exopolysaccharides (EPS) to develop novel treatments for diseases like cancer and diabetes. Dr. Shukla’s expertise in microbiology, honed during his Ph.D. at Gujarat University, where he researched the application of bacteria from radionuclide-contaminated environments, uniquely positions him to contribute to this innovative field.
With over 40 peer-reviewed publications and multiple academic and research awards, including gold medals in his
Bachelor’s and
Master’s programs, both in
Microbiology, Dr. Shukla brings a wealth of knowledge to his work at UCC. His prior experience as an
Assistant Professor at the
Institute of Advanced Research (India) further highlights his academic leadership, research excellence, and commitment to advancing microbiological science. He is also currently serving as a
Guest Editor in
Frontiers of Microbiology (ARTEMIS Special Issue) and other international peer-reviewed journals.
Project
Now working within
APC Microbiome interdisciplinary research environment, Dr. Shukla is poised to make impactful contributions to cancer therapy by exploring how engineered bacteria can serve as bio-factories for precision-targeted treatments.
