APC People Profile - Remi Denise
Intro – Remi Denise is a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Andrey Shkoporov’s group at APC Microbiome Ireland. Remi joined APC in 2022 as a postdoctoral researcher. His research focuses on the identification of the viral population existing in well-preserved faecal and dental samples coming from ancient human population (3000 years old and older)
Current research - As part of his Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) fellowship, Remi is working at the APC Microbiome Institute in Ireland under the expert guidance of Prof. Andrey Shkoporov. His research aims to identify viruses in well-preserved faecal and dental samples, examining how the viral population has evolved and its connection to shifts in human populations and dietary habits.
Background – Remi Denise obtained his Master's degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology in France before being awarded a prestigious doctoral fellowship by the French Government to conduct his Ph.D. in Life Science Complexity at the renowned Institut Pasteur. His research focused on unraveling the intricate co-option of macromolecular complexes in bacterial and archaeal membranes. In 2020, Remi joined the University of Florida as a postdoctoral fellow, delving into the metabolism of vitamin B6 in both bacteria and archaea while seeking to understand the functional role of related enzymes in E. coli.
Hobbies – In his free time Remi enjoys reading, travelling to new places, cooking for friends and family. He also enjoys going for walks and to music festivals.
