APC People Profile - Dhrati Patangia

INTRO - Dhrati Patangia is a PhD student in Prof. Catherine Stanton’s group at APC Microbiome Ireland, where she studies the antibiotic resistance patterns in various settings including early life. She is particularly interested in studying the antibiotic resistance and microbial correlations in early life owing to the importance of microbial development and health in early life.

CURRENT RESEARCH - Dhrati is working on various projects studying the effect of acute and chronic antibiotic exposure on the milk and gut microbiota. These projects include studying the temporal impact of antibiotics on the microbiota composition and functional development. She is interested in learning and applying new bioinformatics tools to her research.

BACKGROUND - Dhrati completed her M-tech integrated in Biotechnology at the D. Y. Patil University, India. During her graduate studies, she completed a six-month internship in NCCS, Pune, India about the microbial development during pregnancy and infancy. This led to Dhrati’s increased interest about early life microbial development research. After finishing her course in 2017, she moved to Cork in 2018 to pursue a PhD with Prof Catherine Stanton and Prof Paul Ross on the APC Antimicrobial resistance Post graduate program (APC AMR PG). She will soon submit her PhD thesis and wishes to continue her future in academia.

HOBBIES - Dhrati enjoys travelling and spending time gazing at the beauty of nature, socializing over coffee and cake with a good company. She tries to keep somewhat healthy by going for walks and yoga.
