Outline

The Climate Diplomacy training programme was developed in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs to empower diplomats stationed both in Ireland and abroad to engage in informed climate related discussions with their colleagues and counterparts.

The programme is delivered online over 8 weeks and includes the following modules:

Module 1: Why fixing climate change is a uniquely difficult challenge

Module 2: Introduction to international climate agreements and diplomacy

Module 3: Climate agreement mechanisms and negotiations

Module 4 - Energy Transitions – Pathways to net zero

Module 5 - Energy Security

Module 6 – Climate Finance

Module 7 – Climate economics, justice and ethics

Module 8 – Impacts of climate change on other DFA priorities

Schedule Information:

Online weekly for 8 weeks. 2-hour sessions.

This course is suited to individuals/departments seeking a clear understanding of various climate issues and how they relate to foreign policy with guidance on how these issues affect diplomatic efforts.
